MODALISBOA DAY 2: BACKSTAGE ANA SALAZAR BY MIGUEL RICARDO

The Ana Salazar show opened with a stand-still display of complete red outfits; thick folded coats with straight-leg trousers and red leather pieces. Whether the aim of this prelude to the catwalk was to fool you into thinking that the collection would feature solely statement red tones with a slightly predictable monochromatic colour range, is yet to be discovered but this show was far from predictable.

Themes seemed to range from the medieval to the futuristic while common features ran throughout the collection including wired ribbon adornments, transparent pleated chiffon pieces and a variety of leather ‘biker’ inspirations. The collection included red leather with metal studs, wide-leg trousers coupled with military-style jackets, assymetric and black silk dresses, floor-length chiffon with elongating ruffles and heavily glittered silver balaclavas or sleeveless jackets, representative of medieval knight’s helmets and chain mail, on top of long-sleeved chiffon blouses and trousers decorated in cosmic prints.

To try and pinpoint the initial point of inspiration for the collection would be near to impossible yet the collection still seems to run together smoothly as the popular combinations of leather and chiffon are presented with a new perspective for Autumn/Winter 2011.
