'MATERIALITY' AT DIREKTORENHAUS, BERLIN

From the 4th June 2011, Berlin’s new house of ‘design-art’ hosts the inaugural solo exhibition by UK industrial designer, Benjamin Hubert.

Text by Lucy Mclean

Hubert adopts a materials driven design approach, with his London-based studio taking much inspiration from the raw materials it uses and the close relationships maintained between the products, processes and craftsmen. His first solo exhibition is entitled ‘Materiality: the application and attributes of materials in design’ and will include both new and earlier pieces of his design work, as well as providing a unique backstage view into the Benjamin Hubert studio in the UK through an interesting variety of images, components, prototypes and materials. His studio was founded back in 2007, shortly after his graduation as an Industrial Designer from Loughborough Univeristy, and Hubert has since been awarded with several prestigious awards, such as becoming Young Designer of the year in both 2010 and 2009 at the British Design Awards.

The ‘Materiality’ exhibition will run from 4th June to 30th August 2011 at the popular Berlin gallery Direktorenhaus, celebrating the work of Benjamin Hubert as a budding young designer while highlighting the narrative, values and design language that are fundamental to his work.
