LFW DAY 1: BORA AKSU A/W 2011

Bora Aksu left the colony of ants that inspired his Spring/Summer 11 collection behind to look at darker inspirations for the Autumnal season. The main idea for his new collection came indeed from movie posters and book covers for Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Sweeney Todd. Aksu tried to recreate the good/bad dichotomy mixing different fabrics together, representing with respectable tweeds a healthy human mind and with bright emerald shades and heavy and textured armoured and structured bodices a darker and more mysterious side of the human soul.

At times he unnecessarily overcomplicated his designs, though, employing too many abstract cobweb-like elements, appliquéd motifs and even bits and pieces of white plastic bags, letting the Hyde side of the collection prevail a bit too much.
