FROM 9 DEC: "OBRAS PÚBLICAS NO JAPÃO" BY JOSÉ DE GUIMARÃES AT MUSEU DO ORIENTE, LISBON
Over the past ten years portuguese artist José De Guimarães created over 419 unique pieces / sculptures for the city of Kushiro, based on the island of Hokkaido in Japan.
From 9th December a series of photographs showcasing these public sculptures will be on display at Museu do Oriente in Lisbon.
The depressing weather situation during the year makes the young population leave the island. Due to the sociological problems of Kushiro José De Guimarães proposed an intervention by creating a set of objects / sculptures with brightly colored neon light, scattered over a wide area: Urban facilities, information offices and shelters, fountains, floor with drawings, great totems of lighting, light fixtures with fiber optics and neon elements in buildings.
The project was inaugurated ten years ago and continues, today, with great acceptance by the local population.
