MODALISBOA Metaphysical A/W 2022: João Magalhães

To urban chaos , street art and and catholic iconography

João Magalhães was opening Modalisboa last night with a dazzeling show on a stage in the LAB Section covered in the Ukranien colors. He grew up between London and Portugal and is working in fashion since 2014, five years later he created his own label. His work centers around androgyny, handmade techniques from knitwear to hand embroidery, dialogue between cultures and high tech innovation. With his current collection which is called “Venus and the solidary cloud” he is once again focusing on duality by combining elements of couture and streetwear, manual draping and beading, graffiti and digital print as well as ceramic and 3D printing. We love the vividly detailed accessories, his masks and partly see-through dresses and bodysuits covered in digital prints. With the deconstructed knitwear, the ancient batik technique and the soft colour palette João is exploring form and construction in his artisanal creations and makes us smile with his cowboy vs. hippie references.
