Beauty behind the scenes: REUSE, REWORK, REMAIN

ZOOT’s creative director and make-up artist extraordinaire Antonia Rosa gives us a look behind the scenes of the REUSE, REWORK, REMAIN editorial, which was all about sustainable and ethical fashion and reclaiming the future. For the eco-conscious next generation, Antonia gives beauty tips for youthful skin and highlights some of the Clarins products she used on the vibrant Charlene.

On young skin, care does not have to be intensive, especially on zero-blemish skin. I advise you to only use a cleansing micellar water when you are not using stronger make-up and to moisturize in the morning. Clarins has a lot of water-based moisturizers that you can use during the day, but at night, go for a slightly richer cream. Lips are essential to be comfortable. End the daily routine with steamed water up to the neck. And drink lots of water!

What was your artistic idea behind the make-up?

Charlene has young skin without any apparent defects, but her skin’s sensitivity was revealed during my work. I only used correction so as not to weigh down the skin and to leave it with her youthful appearance. I used little makeup in the first photos so that she could evolve into the character throughout the shooting.

How did you prep her skin?

I always start with a rose water to remove excess oil from the skin and the Clarins Baume Beauté Eclair serum to circulate the blood and give light to the skin. Another fevourite product of mine is the energizing Eau Dynamisante that has been around for decades. I use it when I see the model getting tired, and without energy or on myself every time I feel tired: I spray it on the neckline for an energy boost.

 

 

What are some tips for bringing out the skin’s natural glow without looking too “cakey”?

Never use foundation or concealers over freshly applied moisturizer. There needs to be a waiting time of about 30 minutes. Corrective make-up / concealers are the best option when you want a natural look, and then you can also use the conturing technique but with very little material. Set with a small amount of loose powder. I finish all with Clarins Fix’ Make-Up. Unlike other fix ups on the market, it gives a very natural coverage and avoids the reflective effect with harsher light. Also, it’s biological!

 

What were your makeup essentials for the shoot and why did you choose them?

Correctors + eyelash mascara + eyebrow fixer + Sun Blush + lip oil, all from Clarins. Clarins is a trusted brand and they have products that treat the skin while highlighting and correcting. They are excellent especially for active women of any age.

 

Are there any skincare tips or makeup advice you could give to people with youthful, blemish-free skin?

Good daily hygiene and special weekly care is optimal for skin free of disease or anomalies. Wash and moisturize every day and exfoliate. You can also use a beauty mask once per week and an eye lash serum. It can be used in treatment but also to thicken eyelashes before applying mascara. I would recommend using high-quality products, preferably as natural as possible.

 

 

How did you choose the colour palette for the shoot?

I decided at the time of the shoot—like almost everything I do! I like working without having a precise plan and then defining the path after having all the information in my vision.

What did you use to clean and moisturize the model’s skin after the shoot? 

I only used micellar water and Clarins SOS Hydra Masque Fraîcheur Hydratant Intense to replace the hydrolipid film quickly so that the skin felt comfortable after the aggression of the shooting day.

What are the essential items you would suggest for a basic makeup kit?

+ Sun blush
+ Colored lip hydratant
